To start to Feng Shui your home, simply look around you and at your current home environment. Think about your home as if you are walking in to it for the first time. This will help you start to see things you might not notice otherwise.
Think of the energy, or chi, as starting from the entry of your home and coming in like a flow of water. Start from outside your front door and walk in, thinking about where the flow of water might be stopped or impeded by things, furniture, doors, poor design, etc.
And, think about all of the material possessions around you as having energy and representing areas of our lives. For example, the bed is a representation of the person who sleeps in it, your desk is a symbol for your career, etc.
If you want to increase the good energy in your home, there are some things you can consider as you walk around and inside your home to improve the good chi.

1. WATER = WEALTH
Find a way to have a water feature near or outside the front of your home. The sound of water is so relaxing.
But, in addition to being comforting, the flow of water is a powerful symbol for attracting and bringing in wealth.
If you’re in a small space, think of a small tabletop fountain.
2. CLEAR THE ENTRYWAY
Don’t ignore the exterior entrance, either. Clear overgrown bushes and cut back any trees that are obscuring the entrance. Shake out the doormat and keep it well-lit.
This will hopefully welcome in the good energy – but also, it’ll look nice for you and your guests.
3. CLEAN WINDOWS
Keeping them clean will attract more light, which will improve your mood and energize everyone in the home.
4. BALANCE THE 5 ELEMENTS
Feng Shui principles believe there are 5 elements in our homes: fire, water, earth, wood and metal.
Think about the elements that your life may be lacking and use items in your home to balance them out.
For example, if you are feeling lazy, consider items that will bring more of the fire element into your environment, such as a candle and decor that infuses the colors of fire, such as reds, oranges and yellows.
Look around your environment – do you have a lot of the same colors or tones? Look for ways to balance those elements out.
5. FIX OR TOSS BROKEN THINGS
Having things around that are broken or in poor repair is aligned with unwanted frustrations in your life. Fix them and restore them to their former glory – or remove them so they don’t block the good energy.
This is also just a good general practice when caring for your environment. If a door starts squeaking, take the time to grease it or check if it’s balanced.
All homes settle over time and these things happen. Take care of your home and your home will take care of you.
Fixing broken things is said to improve anxiety and help make your life go smoother.
6. GET MORE PLANTS
INDOOR GARDENING CAN BOOST OUR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH
Feng Shui agrees that plants are good for your spaces. Plants improve the energy into your home and increase the health and vitality of the space and its occupants.

7. BLOCK DRAINS’
Energy can flow down drains and leave your home – a symbol for money or wealth draining from your life.
So, by closing drains, you can keep dollars from draining. This is as simple as closing bathroom doors, closing toilet lids, covering sink drains, pulling the tub stopper after bathing etc.
8. DOORS ARE IMPORTANT
Doors are seen as portals that bring or block opportunities into your life.
Frequently dust and clean doors and check that they are working properly.
Any doors that are unable to open and close easily can block the flow of energy, which can relate to closing off opportunities that are trying to flow into your life.
9. POSITION BEDS CORRECTLY

FENG SHUI YOUR BED POSITION
This is one of the most well-known principles of Feng Shui. The beds should be in what is called “commanding position”, which means you can see the door when lying in the bed, but you are in the farthest part of the room away from the door.
The same is true for desks in an office. If your desk is stuck in a cubicle or position that doesn’t have you facing the door when seated, you can place a mirror in front of you that allows you to have a clear view of the door.
Commanding position is said to increase energy flow in your relationship and career.
10. DECLUTTER YOUR HOME
Take some time every so often to walk around your home with the sole purpose of looking for objects that are in the wrong place or items that block the pathways. Regularly go through your things and get rid of items you don’t use, don’t fit, or don’t bring you joy.

11. BLESS SPACES
Religious readers will be familiar with this step, because the Feng Shui interpretation is very similar to blessing a space.
Here you take time to walk through your home and meditate and focus on what you want to create and feel in that area of your home. You can use sage or essential oils to gently smudge your home.
The laws of manifestation work well here, too, and the art of setting intentions and creating visual images of what you want in that area of your life.
12. PRACTICE GRATITUDE:
Gratitude has incredible health benefits. Plus, practicing gratitude increases the “qi” or life energy that flows through your home.
Feng Shui principles believe that energy is flowing through everything, including things and our homes have their own energy, so practice giving thanks to the energy in your home.
Feng Shui doesn’t have to be time consuming or expensive – it’s simply another tool or guide you can use when designing, decorating, and decluttering your home.
